Yi Wang – Violin

YiWangYi Wang is a prize winner in both Chinese National violin competition and Rudolf Lipizer International competition. After completing his undergraduate study at Beijing Central Conservatory with Prof. Zhilong, Wang, Yi travelled to London to continue his postgraduate course with the world renowned violinist and educator, Yfrah Neaman. He was awaeded the prestigious ‘concert recital Diploma-Premier Prix’ in 1994, and in 1995 was offered the position of Assistant Concertmaster with the Welsh National Opera.

Yi came to Australia in 1997 to join the Australian Chamber Orchestra, from 2001-2007 he was Principal First Violin with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, with whom he was also Acting Concertmaster.  Yi is director and leader of Virtuosi Tasmania Chamber Orchestra and also led the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria on many occasions.  Recently he moved to Melbourne to join Orchestra Victoria as Principal Violin.

As a soloist, Yi has performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Moldova Symphony and Chinese Youth Orchestra, and given recitals in London, Beijing, Sydney, Melbourne, Weimar, Hobart, Suffolk (UK) and Hangzhou (China).

In recent years Yi has been involved in developing Chinese music education including participating in the Beijing Chamber Music Festival, giving masterclasses in Central Conservatory and Macau Conservatory, leading and directing the Chinese Youth Orchestra.  He also teaches violin at both Melbourne  and Monash Universities.

Zoe Freisberg – Violin

Zoe commenced her violin studies at the age of four under the direction of her mother, Helena Freisberg. She completed her Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium with Michele Walsh, where she was awarded the Matilda Jane Aplin Prize and the Varda Jefferies Prize. During her studies in Queensland, Zoe played concertos with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra, the Corda Spiritus Orchestra and the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2014, Zoe commenced her first year of study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) under the tutelage of Robin Wilson. Zoe was successful in joining the Australian Chamber Orchestra 2 on four tours as an ACO 2014 Emerging Artist under the mentorship of Principal Violin Helena Rathbone. Zoe was also one of six finalists in the ABC’s Young Performers Awards as well as a finalist in the ANAM Concerto Competition. Zoe is also very honoured to be the recipient of the Australian Youth Orchestras Richard Pollet Memorial Award.
