A Pastoral Afternoon
Beethoven’s famous depiction of the countryside in his Pastoral symphony concludes our tribute to his 250th birthday year. The pastoral theme continues with Mendelssohn’s famous nocturne from his incidental music to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Italian composer Antonio Salieri was a teacher of many famous composers including Beethoven and Mozart and came to fame in Peter Schaffer’s play and film Amadeus. Although mainly a composer of opera, he also wrote this attractive concerto for flute and oboe, performed by Lauren Gorman and Brienne Gawler.
